Joe Mack was born and raised in Lawton, Ok., and didn’t care much for Rock & Roll, Bluegrass or Jambands at all until he moved off to Stillwater, Ok., to go to college. Well, he bought into the university program, but didn’t necessarily get the piece of paper all the fellow investors were going for. But he did broaden his horizons. And most importantly, he got really good at playing guitar. Good may be an understatement – this “musical architect” has traveled from coast to coast

bringing his panhandle pickin’ and madman melodies to the masses. He’s been fortunate enough to share the stage with folks like Ryan Adams, Vince Herman & Drew Emmitt (Leftover Salmon), Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, Randy Crouch, Travis Linville, Tim Reynolds, Speakeasy, Stoney LaRue, Carter Sampson, Split Lip Rayfield, Umphrey’s McGee, PoDank String Band and many others on stages across the country. Many live releases, most notably his 2005 release “One Track Mind: Live at Daddy Woo’s,” has sold nearly 1,000 copies out the trunk thanks to his longtime friend Erik Allen at Daydream Recordings. The homegrown, homespun collection feature’s Joe and an array of toys like Gatorade bottles, cowbells, and what nots performing his “hits” like “Born to Roam,” “Pictures of Planets,” “Ain’t Nunna Her” and “Fallin’.” Labor Day weekend 2007 solidified his approval status among the Red Dirt rockers when he won the “Open Mic Singer/Songwriter Contest” at the Grape Ranch Winery’s Red Dirt Harvest Festival. In good form, Mack took the mainstage on Sunday evening with his friends Randy Crouch, Dave Teegarden and Tom Skinner for a kickin’ and a pickin’. Mack was the pivotal member of Tahlequah based acoustic jamband The Skillbillies, and since then has gone on to perform regularly with another Tahlequah troubadour, the legendary Bill Erickson & the New Migrant Workers, and is no stranger to being a “hired gun” whenever duty calls. If you dig Michael Hedges, Keller Williams, or little round guys with big beer appetites and too much time on their hands, then Joe Mack is the choob for you.

Carter Sampson is an Okie born, Fayetteville, AR based singer-songwriter. Blessed by a musical legacy from a family that includes such talents as Roy Orbison, Carter’s journey as a musician seems to have been predestined. A naturally independent free spirit, what started as a pass-time at age 15 had matured into a dedicated passion of creation and performance. Her empowering, relatable and appealing music has garnered her an incredibly diverse and loyal fan base. Audiences and sound engineers alike find that appearances can be deceiving as this diminutive figure delivers a powerful and compelling performance. Carter has made several appearances at the songwriter’s Mecca, The Blue Door, both opening for artists such as Patrice Pike, Christine Kane and Susan Gibson and headlining her own shows. She has also played The Blue Door’s Annual Tribute to Woody Guthrie along with Ray Wylie Hubbard and Kevin Welch. Her radio debut was made on 107.7 FM’s “For the Sake of the Song” radio show with “I’ll Be Around”. Since then her music has had radio play across the nation. Carter also plays many outdoor festivals which have included Amnesty International’s “Groovefest”, the Paseo Arts Festival, the Oklahoma City Festival of the Arts, The Illinois River Jam and has performed twice at the Woody Guthrie Folk Festival in Okemah, OK. Nationally, Carter has entertained in the subways of Boston creating a following there that quickly led to club dates in Boston and Cambridge including Leslie College. Carter has opened shows for The Elephant Revival, Pat Green and toured Texas and Oklahoma with Bitch and Animal of Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records. She currently tours regularly in OK, KS, NM, AR and CO.

November 2008 brought the release of her fourth album “Good for the Meantime” recorded with Travis Linville at DirtyBird Studios and mastered by Garrett Hines at Treelady studios. Sampson has had a great response to the tours supporting “Good for the Meantime” and the album has sold many times through itunes and at live shows.

In April 2011 Carter launched her newest project “Mockingbird Sing” on www.kickstarter.com. She gave fans and backers 30 days to raise the money to record and release her 3rd studio album. By offering rewards such as exclusive songs, tee shirts, posters and house concerts Carter’s fans backed her project 105% by raising over $6,000 with 90 backers. Mockingbird Sing was released 11-11-11! The new CD has 11 original songs and includes “John Hardy” a traditional tune recorded by artist such as Woody Guthrie and The Carter Family. “Mockingbird Sing” features Carter’s band, The County Seat, and was recorded at East Hall Studios in Fayetteville, AR and mastered at Treelady Studios in Turtle Creek, PA.

As We Are is a solo project founded by Dale Vaughn in October 2010. Surrounded by a studio band consisting of long time friend Jeremy Lewis – Drums/Keys/Programming and cousin, Jerel Cermack – Lead Guitar, As We Are set out to create something fresh, energetic, and new. The result was a 4 song EP that is gaining rave reviews. 2011 is definitely shaping up to be a breakout year for As We Are!

Brian says, “while hip hop is where my heart is it’s hard to ignore the endless possibilities of sound being brought to table through other genres like electronic and dub, so what better for me than to combine the best of both worlds. To me it’s all about people dancing and having fun, which has always been my main motivation to keep the beats bumpin’.”

8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 21+ / $6 cover

Carrie Nation & the Speakeasy is a high- energy, acoustic brass ‘n’ grass outfit based out of Wichita, KS. The band, whose sound has been described as a stagecoach in overdrive, has brought their eclectic blend of punk, bluegrass, dixieland, and circus tunes to packed bars, basements, and festivals across the United States since 2007.

With tunes that cover just about everything from drinkin’ to dyin’ to livin’ and lyin’, CNS can fill the dance floor with their blazing bluegrass and circus tunes as quickly as they can provoke existential introspection with dark, slinky tunes reminiscent of a New Orleans funeral march. Blaring trombones melt into break-neck banjo solos, while the “junkyard” trap set and stand-up bass churn out hard-driving rhythms that carry the force of a Kansas freight train.

The Whistle Pigs Dance Band continues the tradition of versatile musical offerings. Contemporary music. Classic rock. Jazz. Rhythm and blues. It’s hard to fit the Whistle Pigs into a single category. Entertaining Michiana audiences of all ages since 1993, these entertainers provide a polished and exciting musical experience. Their seven-piece dance band is a close-knit family of musicians who have performed with such groups as The Temptations, South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Charlie Daniels, Roomful of Blues, Jim Schwall, Electric Amish, Koko Taylor, Lonnie Mack, Pinetop Perkins, Bobby Vinton, Mary Wilson and The Supremes, The Birds, Lonnie Brooks, War, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Atlanta Rhythm Section and America.

The domination of pop culture amongst the masses has created a subterranean, “self sufficient”, independent music scene. In this realm, the great songwriters of today dig deep into expression with a purpose. Zack duPont certainly falls into this category in more ways than one. In duPont’s world, authenticity and truth are the core values that nourish the vulnerability of his song craft. He is not afraid to dwell in the most extreme of emotions, in fact he embraces them as they come.

Since April 2006, when he released his self-produced debut, Naked Without, Tom has played scores of coffeehouses, bars, gay pride festivals and other events—honing his skills along the way.

With the January 2008 release of his second CD, Rise, Tom demonstrates just how far he’s come. The six songs showcase his stylistic flexibility, from the urgent growl of “Morning Sun” to the sweet and unadorned “King of Something Right.” The recent music video for “Rise” barreled its way to #2 on MTV’s LOGO and stuck around 8 weeks.

8pm Doors / 9pm Show / 21+ / $5

Los Angeles based artist Jeremiah and the Red Eyes started in the Southern California coffeehouses and bars, picking up sounds and ideas along the way and later mixed them up with the song ideas in his head. What came out was a blend of the Delta blues and old folk songs, Tom Waits and the Replacements, some Willie Nelson twang and some good old garage rock and roll – and a whole lot of other things – Delta blues and twangy grooves, one reporter called it.

2004 saw the release of Red Eyed and Restless on Bull Stud Records which had songs played on various U.S. stations including the syndicated show, “Altville”, and Chris Morris’ Watusi Rodeo on Indie 103.1 in LA – and across Europe. Over the years they have been well supported by the Americana scene in Los Angeles and have shared the stage with Southern Culture On The Skids, Dead Rock West, and Mike Stinson – to name a few – and also David Olney and Tommy Womack in Nashville, where Jeremiah relocated for a spell in 2009.

In 2010 Jeremiah and the Red Eyes hit the road in support of a new CD, Under Your Spell, and covered a good 40k miles starting with LA and then onto Phoenix, Denver, Austin, St. Louis, Nashville, Chicago, San Francisco, and various cities in between.

The Beards’ self-titled 2009 debut on Rooftop Comedy Records receives frequent airplay on Sirius’s “Raw Dog” channel, and they regularly sell out 200-cap rooms across the South and the East Coast (Laughing Skull, New Earth Music Hall, Sky City, etc.). They just completed their very first West Coast tour, drawing between 50 and 150 heads a night over 12 dates in new markets, all while landing a cover feature in their hometown Atlanta magazine and attracting the attention of two different management groups.

Music by: Griddle Kids (@ 10pm following the beards).

After noticing that Cronus finally had a good repertoire of songs, they decided to take it to the next level and find the missing members that were needed to complete the sound.
Eric Nassau is everybody’s friend.
The Voodoo Lounge Gypsies are a musical/performance collective under the direction of mandolinist Joe Credit III and percussionist Antonio Perez.
Trevor Exter was born in Ithaca, NY. He always played different things but kept coming back to the cello. He sits with the cello and sings, but he plays it weird – like a tiny bass or a big ukulele. He also hits it sometimes. He makes music for the heartbreakers and the brokenhearted, the nighthawks and the dreamers. Mixing Brazilian pop, American soul and restless rock energy with an itinerant vision all his own, his songs travel far and burrow deep. The lyrics, brimming with passion and disdain, are delivered by a warm, grainy voice you won’t easily forget. This is adult music that pulls you in close and burns in all the right places.

First-time listeners are sometimes puzzled when Trevor steps on stage, a cello plugged into an amp the way a rocker bears his axe. After a few disarming remarks and a haunting number or two, a deeper mystery becomes clear: this flame could sweep you up. Performing solo or with his band, Trevor Exter is an original, the kind that brings audiences to the edge of their seats.

Opening set by Allgorithms: Dan Huck (bass), Mike Schurk (drums), Edward Dowd (guitar), and Alex “Alejandro Belanos Davis Green” Lumaghi (piano) play blended rhythms and time variations of jazz-ass math rock.

A city known for its blues and its bluegrass. In the bluegrass history books, a pivotal stop among others, along the road to success for the Monroe Brothers and, in more current times, noteworthy as home base for the long popular Special Consensus. And now the Windy City serves as a critical intersection in the lives of four musicians, two who hail from Illinois and the others from as far and near as North Carolina and upstate New York.

With a PBS series soundtrack already to its credit and a critically acclaimed sophomore recording, The Henhouse Prowlers have been barnstorming on to the red hot bluegrass scene since 2004. Not just another bluegrass band, the Henhouse Prowlers are adeptly positioning themselves for nothing less than success. Each member does double duty within the group, holding a business as well as musical post, making it a total collaborative effort.

Dedicated equally to tradition and innovation, The Henhouse Prowlers center their sound on that of the early, formative years of bluegrass, while they keep their pulse on today by covering contemporary topics in a largely original repertoire. The Henhouse Prowlers wear the Bill Monroe mantle with spit and polish. They perform — and conduct media interviews — in suit-and-tie and work in a tightly choreographed, one-mic stage setting, which adds a dynamic dimension to their shows. Combining passion, confidence, and flair with instrumental and vocal prowess, The Prowlers deliver bluegrass with an edge.

Daniel Sexauer (aka Dsexy) isn’t new to Loyal Family, he worked with us this past summer booking and promoting events at Pop’s Blue Moon and 2720 Cherokee. And he is just finishing up an internship at Madison House and starting his own company called Sexauer Music Group. He’s coming back in town and dropping a Cannonball at Pop’s Blue Moon on Friday, Dec. 17th. Come out and witness a showcase of several of “Dsexy’s” closets friends and allies, it’s sure to be a solid evening of hip-hop and electronic “on the Hill” featuring Goodness Gracious, The Spacetones, DJ Geeg, & E$.

Goodness Gracious is the latest project from the mind of Mike Fitzsimons (from Digital Movement / Fitz & Dan). Fitz has been hard at work in the studio, creating new tracks with guitar, synth, and Ableton production. Check out what he’s working on at his website below; and come out October 1st to see and hear the tracks in full effect. There will be live guitar, bass, synth, and laptop DJ’ing.

The Spacetones are an independent intergalactic travelers from the vast tundras of Springfield, Missouri. Their experimental hip-hop digs heavily on psychedelic jazz, classic funk, breakbeats, and fusion. The group uses computers, drum machines, samplers, turntables, and occasionally live instrumentation in the creation of their music. A Spacetones live show is both energetic and funkalicious, often interweaving abstract samples and obscure recordings with crowd pleasing jams and dancefloor tracks.

E$Money (aka Erwin Matthews) has a refreshing take on hip-hop, electronics, funk, and soul that is largely inspired by the almost forgotten medium, the record. The authentic feeling of the actual ‘album’. It’s all about the click, pop, and static. Erwin’s music pays respect to the old school but also bridges the gap with new funk and experimental hip-hop.

Like to help promote for this show? You can RSVP to the event on facebook and invite your friends to join us.

Literate and accessible, Grimm’s songs meditate on subjects from falling in or out of love, being all right no matter what, to playing in the local music scene. These are stories that need to be told, need to be heard. The voice in these songs speaks loneliness and redemption, jumpstarts and slow fades, both separation and discovery. However, sonic epiphanies travel only as far as the music will allow. Singing electric guitars and slippery pedal steel frame the lyrics with vibrancy as Grimm’s distinctive nasal baritone allows the lyrics to unfold, “a thinking man’s country music.”

The personnel of the band seems to turn around to the extent that the audience is never sure who will show up to play, including the band. At any given moment, June Star could be: Andrew Grimm (songs, vocals, guitars), Timothy Bracken (bass, vocals), Mike Ward (keyboards), Burke Sampson (guitars), Mike Ross (drums), Dave Hadley (pedal steel), Ryan Finnerin (bass, vocals), and Jason Butcher (drums, vocals).

The songs and ideas seemed to meet at an organic, but very rock oriented approach. The song ideas have been based off of love, life, happiness, anger, psychedelia, stories, myths, and memories.

After noticing that Cronus finally had a good repertoire of songs, they decided to take it to the next level and find the missing members that were needed to complete the sound. The sytle is an eclectic mix of the minds with various influences: soulful southern style leads, indie/progressive rock, funk, r&b, blues and jazz.

“My name is Sean Padilla, and I make music under the name “The Cocker Spaniels.” The name comes from a conversation I overheard, when I was a child, of my female cousins ranting about how all men are “dogs.” C.Spaniels began in 1994 as a recording project involving me, Alex Wing and Jon Koza. All of us sang, wrote songs and played multiple instruments. Unfortunately, when I moved from my birthplace of Brooklyn, NY to Beaumont, TX in 1996, I could no longer write or record regularly with the other two members. C.Spaniels has been a solo operation ever since, but I keep the name as a tribute to Alex and Jon, who were my best friends at the time, and the first peers to truly believe in my music.”

“From 1994 to 2000, I recorded seven albums’ worth of material on a cassette multi-track. This material chronicles my life from middle school to college in graphic, uncomfortable, and occasionally immature detail. These recordings stayed within my small circle of friends until 1998, when I gained Internet access and discovered “cassette culture.” I traded cassettes and CDRs of my music with any DIY ‘zines or band I found interesting. I don’t care about hipness, fame or money, though I wouldn’t turn down any of it. I just want to be able to keep making music. I love doing it.”
